LITTLE SECRET

"Art enables us to find ourselves

and lose ourselves at the same time"

My name is Monique van Doorn, original from the Netherlands but now living the life of a Nomad. Because I want to explore the world, meet new people and learn from my experiences. I started with Art as my Therapy in 2009 after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. To get my mind of the fear of dying...   Now a survivor I wish for other women to free themselves from all that is holding them back by baring it all. My goal is for women to feel comfortable in their own skin and to boost their confidence level. "Freedom can only be achieved once you conquer your fear. My goal is to pull women across this line."

Monique and more...

My inspiration comes mostly from intense conversations with confident, beautiful, sensual ladies. Whoever manages to stir my curiosity and spark my creative juices, may end up as flowing lines coming out of my charcoal-blackened fingers… I feel empowered when the result entices people, draws them out and helps them explore their fantasies…It’s not about art, it’s about their reactions…the sheer pleasure of it – mine and yours!

Little Secret

The series is called " Little Secret " referring to the secret identity of many of the models, many of whom are respected ladies in our community; – we see and meet them everywhere on a daily basis. They dared to explore their sensual side, but they have not yet fully exposed their identities… hence, the models are a little secret… Only I know who they are, and I’m not telling...

Owning a Monique

The drawings portray the sensuality of the female body using various stages of nakedness, with a wink that says they’re teasing and luring in the viewer.  A seductive statement we all secretly want to make. It speaks about the sexuality of its owner, but more importantly it says that you appreciate indulging in sensual foreplay in any setting…but you like to keep that your own little secret...

Tease and Trigger and Provoke

"To me, it is not about the actual painting, but about the thoughts it provokes. I want to tease the viewer. Each painting has, provoked thoughts and fuelled countless conversations that triggered new discoveries in me and especially in my models. These discoveries we cherish between women…our little secrets… I can’t imagine anything as intriguing and tantalising as a sensual woman when she is exposing her inner beauty through her body. When a woman is as confident when she is naked as she is in clothes, she exudes so much sexiness, it begs me to put it to paper…", said Monique when asked to explain her 'art'.

Reviews

-"To Monique van Doorn, a Dutch artist, her fondness of the body of a sexy woman, turned out to be the catalyst that unleashed her talent.
Each of her drawings is a testimonial, of the inner strength and outer beauty, of her female models.
She craves the stimulation they trigger, in her mind and she wants to share this with everyone, through her drawings.
Monique has been caught on many occasions saying, that her drawings are not art...
She refers to the fact, that she doesn't make these drawings, with the thought that they should qualify for some prize or distinction.
Instead, Monique derives her kicks from the reactions and the triggers of the viewer...” by Farah Ayubi

-"Sensual artist Monique van Doorn  is one of those individuals who has no space for fear in her life. She has come face to face with death seven years ago when she was battling a very aggressive form of breast cancer." Text: Elizabeth Francisco
